MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT DOES NOT BLINK AT A CYCLE OF 3 H z.

DIAGNOSIS:


The malfunction indicator light circuit is open or shorted.

Test mode connector circuit is in open.


TROUBLE SYMPTOM:

When in inspection mode, malfunction indicator light does not blink at a cycle of 3 Hz.

WIRING DIAGRAM:


CHECK STATUS OF MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT.

Turn the ignition switch to OFF.

Disconnect the test mode connector.

Turn the ignition switch to ON. (engine OFF)

Dose the malfunction indicator light illuminate?

Yes


No

Repair the malfunction indicator light circuit.


CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN COMBINATION METER AND ECM CONNECTOR.

Turn the ignition switch to OFF.

Disconnect the connector from ECM.

Turn the ignition switch to ON.

Dose the malfunction indicator light illuminate?

Yes

Repair ground short circuit in harness between combination meter and ECM connector.


No


CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN TEST MODE CONNECTOR AND CHASSIS GROUND.

Turn the ignition switch to OFF.

Disconnect the connector from ECM.

Measure the resistance of harness between test mode connector and chassis ground.

(B76) No. 1 — Chassis ground:

Is the resistance less than 1 Ω?

Yes


No

Repair harness and connector.

Note

In this case, repair the following:

Open circuit in harness between test mode connector and chassis ground



CHECK POOR CONTACT.

Check poor contact in ECM connector.

Is there poor contact in ECM connector?

Yes

Repair poor contact in ECM connector.


No


CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN ECM AND TEST MODE CONNECTOR.

Connect the test mode connector.

Measure the resistance of harness between ECM and chassis ground.

(B137) No. 14 — Chassis ground:

Is the resistance less than 1 Ω?

Yes


No

Repair open circuit in harness between ECM and test mode connector.


CHECK POOR CONTACT.

Check poor contact in ECM connector.

Is there poor contact in ECM connector?

Yes

Repair poor contact in ECM connector.


No

Replace the ECM.
