Retightening cylinder head bolts (not diesel engines)

Important

It is very important that retightening is performed as instructed.

1. Remove the ignition discharge module or the cover on the spark plugs.

2. Remove the camshaft cover and tighten the bolts as follows:

3. Loosen bolt 1 and retighten it. Repeat this procedure in turn as illustrated. Tightening torque: 40 Nm (30 lbf ft).

4. Tighten bolt 1 to 60 Nm (44 lbf ft). Repeat this procedure in turn on all the other bolts, see illustration.

5. Tighten bolt 1 a further 90°. Repeat this procedure in turn on all the other bolts, see illustration.

6. Tighten the timing cover screws. Tightening torque: 22 Nm (16 lbf ft)

7. Check the camshaft cover seal and replace if necessary.

8. Fit the camshaft cover and start tightening bolts 1 and 2 by the recess, see illustration. Continue with the other bolts in turn. Tightening torque: 15 Nm (11 lbf ft).

9. Fit the ignition discharge module or cover on the spark plugs. Tightening torque: 11 Nm (8 lbf ft).
