Retightening cylinder head bolts (not diesel engines)

Important
|
It is very important that retightening is performed as instructed.
|
|
1.
|
Remove the ignition discharge module or the cover on the spark plugs.
|
2.
|
Remove the camshaft cover and tighten the bolts as follows:
|
3.
|
Loosen bolt 1 and retighten it. Repeat this procedure in turn as illustrated.
Tightening torque: 40 Nm (30 lbf ft).

4.
|
Tighten bolt 1 to
60 Nm (44 lbf ft).
Repeat this procedure in turn on all the other bolts, see illustration.

5.
|
Tighten bolt 1 a further
90°.
Repeat this procedure in turn on all the other bolts, see illustration.

6.
|
Tighten the timing cover screws.
Tightening torque: 22 Nm (16 lbf ft)
|
7.
|
Check the camshaft cover seal and replace if necessary.
|
8.
|
Fit the camshaft cover and start tightening bolts 1 and 2 by the recess, see illustration. Continue with the other bolts in turn.
Tightening torque: 15 Nm (11 lbf ft).

9.
|
Fit the ignition discharge module or cover on the spark plugs.
Tightening torque: 11 Nm (8 lbf ft).
