Service programme - General

This section, Group 1 Service, contains our recommendations for pre-delivery and maintenance service for the Saab 9-3, model year 1998.

These recommendations are based on design constraints, the requirements of authorities and practical usage. This is the basis for the mileage intervals for checking and replacing consumable items. However, due to the relationship between time and mileage, some operating conditions will make annual service more suitable.

The owner is provided with a service logbook containing a service card on which the service points are arranged in groups.

Contents

The section contains methodically structured procedures for the acceptance inspection of new cars, in-storage care and pre-delivery and maintenance servicing. The service programmes include associated descriptions of methods and data for each service point.

Important

These methods are to apply when assessing if service has been correctly performed.

Acceptance and storage of a new car

On acceptance of a new car, its specification must be checked. The car must also be inspected for damage. Defects and departures from the specification must be reported in accordance with the special procedures. Afterwards, the car must be inspected during the time it is parked in storage to be sure that it is properly cared for while awaiting its new owner.

Pre-delivery service

Customers base their opinions of Saab and you as a dealer on the condition of the car when it is collected. So pay attention to even the smallest details, such as making sure that there are no oil stains or smudges of dirt anywhere on the car, that the clock shows the right time, and so on.

All inspections, checks and rectification points must be carried out. Unforeseen defects may also have been caused during transport and storage. These are to be regarded as repairs.

Maintenance service

Every driver is given individual “TIME FOR SERVICE" information directly on the car's service indicator, SID. Servicing consists of measures that must be carried out to maintain the car's high standard of safety and prevent faults from arising. These service measures are also designed to ensure that the car will conform to exhaust emission control regulations, maintain a high standard of roadworthiness and be economical in use.

For optimum maintenance of the car, operating conditions should be taken into consideration when choosing an appropriate grade of oil for the engine.

Saab Original Service Programmes

There are five different service programmes: P1, P2, P3, P4 and P5.

Program 1 (P1): 1st service to be carried out at 10 000 km or within one year of the pre-delivery service .

Subsequent service should then be carried out according to the service indicator at 20 000 km intervals or at least once a year if 20 000 km is not reached.

Program 2 (P2): 1st service to be carried out at 10 000 km or within one year of the pre-delivery service.

Subsequent service should then be carried out according to the service indicator at 10 000 km intervals or at least once a year if 10 000 km is not reached.

Program 3 (P3): 1st service to be carried out at 15 000 km or within one year of the pre-delivery service

Subsequent service should then be carried out according to the service indicator at 15 000 km intervals or at least once a year if 15 000 km is not reached.

Program 4 (P4): 1st service to be carried out at 1 000 miles or within one year of the pre-delivery service.

Subsequent service should be carried out according to the service indicator at 10 000 mile intervals or at least once a year if 10 000 miles is not reached.

Program 5 (P5) applies to diesel cars. 1st service to be carried out at 15 000 km or within one year of the pre-delivery service.

Subsequent service should then be carried out according to the service indicator at 15 000 km intervals or at least once a year if 15 000 km is not reached.

Important

In all service work, it is necessary to consult the service schedule to be sure of carrying out the right service measures for the odometer reading in question.

Then carry out the work described in the method description.

Important

The inspection of certain points and the replacement of consumable items that are subject to legal requirements should be carried out at the specified mileage only, unless they are defective beforehand.
