Removal of cylinder head (in situ)
Removal of cylinder head (in situ) |
1. |
Apply wing covers, drain the coolant and disconnect the negative cable on the battery.
2. |
Unplug the mass air flow sensor connector. Detach the intake hose (B204i/B234i) and remove the air cleaner.
3. |
Detach the bypass and intake hoses and plug the intake manifold (turbo). Remove the heat shield (turbo).
4. |
Remove the engine cover or, alternatively, the resonator.
5. |
Remove the pressure pipe between the charge air cooler and the throttle body, plug the hose at the charge air cooler (turbo).
7. |
Remove the power steering pump.
8. |
Remove the crankcase ventilation pipe together with the intake manifold (turbo).
9. |
Unscrew the lock nuts on the turbocharger or, alternatively, the exhaust manifold. Slightly loosen the bolts on the turbocharger stay.
10. |
Detach the coolant hoses and the water pipe for the turbocharger cooling from the cylinder head.
11. |
Unplug the ignition discharge module connector (turbo).
12. |
Remove the bracket for the dipstick pipe and remove the pipe. Detach the crankcase ventilation and vacuum hoses from the camshaft cover.
13. |
Remove the lifting eye at the intake manifold and move the bracket for the electrical connections to one side.
14. |
Detach the hoses for the throttle body preheating and undo the screws holding the water pipe to the thermostat body cover.
15. |
Unplug the temperature sensor connector.
16. |
Undo the screws on the intake manifold stay and remove the intake manifold.
17. |
Remove the cover, ignition cables and distributor cap (B204i/B234i) or the ignition discharge module (turbo). Remove the spark plugs.
18. |
Remove the camshaft cover. Zero the engine and make sure the camshafts are aligned with their setting markings.
19. |
Remove the chain tensioner.
20. |
Remove the camshaft sprockets and place the chain so that the cylinder head can be removed without problem.
21. |
Remove the cylinder head. Start with the bolts in the timing cover and continue in reverse order to assembly. Use the protective sleeve, part no. 75 19 531, to retrieve the bolts.
22. |
Wipe up any oil that has run out. Make sure that the timing chain dies not obstruct removal and then lift off the cylinder head.
