Auxiliary heater diesel LHD

To remove



1. Open the expansion tank pressure cap and release any overpressure. Tighten the cap again.

2. Remove the cable ties and unplug the heater connector.

3. Loosen the fuel hose from the fuel pipe on the heater, plug the hose to avoid spilling fuel and to prevent dirt from entering the fuel system.

4. Carefully pinch the coolant hoses for the heater inlet and outlet with pinch-off pliers 30 07 739.

5. Mark, remove and carefully move aside the hoses from the heater.

Important

If needed, cover the alternator to prevent coolant from entering.


6. Loosen the clamps for induction and exhaust pipes.


7. Loosen the bolt that secures the heater console to the bulkhead and unhook the heater. Plug the heater inlet and outlet connections as the heat exchanger is filled with coolant which drains when removing.

8. Drain the coolant and remove the console from the heater.


To fit



1. Fit the console to the heater.

2. Make sure that the induction and exhaust pipes are in the correct position, lower and hook on the heater, fit the induction and exhaust pipes to the heater. Tighten down the heater console to the body.

3. Make sure that the pipes do not rub up against anything and tighten the clamps.

4. Connect the coolant hoses and remove the pinch-off pliers.


5. Remove the plug from the fuel hose and connect the hose to the fuel pipe on the heater.

6. Spray Kontakt 61 (part no. 30 04 520) on the heater connectors, connect and fixate them.

7. Raise the car and connect an exhaust hose to the heater exhaust outlet as well as an exhaust hose to the exhaust pipe of the car, then lower the car.

8. Start the engine, top up with coolant if necessary and start the heater using the diagnostic instrument. Rev up the engine briefly to ensure circulation of the liquid. (If the heater is equipped with a separate water pump the engine need not be started in order to vent the system and check its operation. However, coolant should be topped up as necessary when the heater is vented and has started.

9. Check heater function.

10. Shut off the heater after function check and remove the exhaust hoses.

11. Check the coolant level and top up if needed.
