Read the instructions below then start the fault diagnostic procedure.

Symptom: Check Engine on. Poor performance.

P0115, P0116 , P0117

P0115 Coolant Temperature Sensor. Open Circuit / Short to B+

P0116 Coolant Temperature Sensor. Short to Ground

P0117 Engine Coolant Temperature. Insufficient Temperature Increase.

Fault symptom

Check Engine on. Poor performance.

Conditions

The following conditions apply for the DTC in question:

P0115: Voltage on control module sensor input exceeds 4.7 V for 0.6 seconds.

P0116: Voltage on control module sensor input is below 0.3 V for 0.6 seconds.

P0117: If the engine speed has exceeded 2000 rpm and the coolant temperature has not exceeded 0°C (32°F) after 3 minutes.

Diagnostic help

P0115: The control module uses -25°C (-13°F) as a substitute value for the glow duration control and 50°C (122°F) as a substitute value for the start of pressure build-up calculation. The reading on the diagnostic tool is -50°C (-58°F). If P0115, P0120 and P0195 are present in the control module then the lead to pin 93 is shorted to B+. The short can be located anywhere in the circuit.

P0116: The control module uses -25°C (-13°F) as a substitute value for the glow duration control and 50°C (122°F) as a substitute value for the start of pressure build-up calculation. The reading on the diagnostic tool is 200°C (392°F).

P0117: The control module uses 0°C (32°F) as a substitute value. The reading on the diagnostic tool is the same as the fuel temperature.
