Accelerator pedal position sensor
Accelerator pedal position sensor |
The task of the position sensor is to convert the request from the driver from a pedal position to an instruction that the engine control module can understand and process. It is controlled by the accelerator pedal via a cable that turns the shaft in the position sensor.
Inside the position sensor there is a potentiometer that varies the voltage to the control module inputs depending on the angle of the position sensor shaft. The position sensor consists of a resistor element and sliding contacts. The sliding contacts are fitted on the position sensor shaft and move over the resistor element in relation to the movement of the shaft.
The potentiometer is supplied with 5 V from pin 57 on the control module to pin 2 on the position sensor and is grounded through pin 3 to pin 49 on the control module.
The control module sensor input, pin 38, is connected to pin 1 on the position sensor, where the voltage varies in relation to the angle of the sensor shaft.
The control module input on the idling speed switch, pin 69, is connected to the position sensor pin 4.
When the position sensor angle is less than approximately 9°, the idling speed contact is open. The idling speed contact closes when this angle is greater than approximately 9°.
