Exhaust manifold (B206i/B234i)

Exhaust manifold (B206i/B234i)

Dismantling

1. Unplug the oxygen sensor's leads and undo the cable clamp and clip.

2. Raise the car.

3. Undo the nuts securing the front exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold and lower away the pipe.

4. Relieve the belt tensioner of load using an extension bar and insert a 6 mm drill bit in the hole, see illustration. Exercise great care to avoid breaking the belt tensioner at its end position. Remove the belt from the power steering pump pulley.

5. Remove the power steering pump bracket with pump and bend it aside.

6. Undo the exhaust manifold retaining nuts. Remove the part in the middle before the outer part. Note that only the outer studs have sleeves.

7. Remove the exhaust manifold with gasket.

To fit

1. Clean the surfaces and fit the exhaust manifold with a new gasket. Fit the outer part before the inner part. To avoid leakage, check that the connecting surfaces for the front exhaust pipe are level with each other.

Note that only the outer studs have sleeves.

Tightening torque 25 Nm (18.5 lbf ft).

2. Mount the power steering pump bracket with pump and fit the belt on the pulley.

3. Relieve the belt tensioner of load using an extension bar and remove the drill bit.

4. Raise the car. Offer up the front exhaust pipe and tighten the joint.

Tightening torque 40 Nm (30 lbf ft).

5. Lower the car to the floor.

6. Plug in the oxygen sensor's leads and fit the cable clamp and clip.
