Fuel filler pipe



Warning

Removal of the fuel filler pipe involves partial dismantling of the car's fuel system. The following points must therefore be observed in connection with this work:

Work only in a well-ventilated area! If approved equipment for the extraction of fuel vapours is available, be sure to use it.

Wear suitable gloves! Prolonged contact with fuel can cause skin irritation or dermatitis.

Keep a class BE fire extinguisher close at hand! Beware of sparks caused by short circuits and when connecting and disconnecting leads in electrical circuits.

No smoking anywhere in the vicinity.


To remove



1. Place the car on a lift.

2. Raise the car and remove the rear right wheel.

3. Clean around the filler pipe to avoid getting dirt into the pipe or into the tank.

4. Remove the plastic screw securing the filler pipe to the body.

5. Remove the rubber hoses and the plastic hose connecting the filler pipe to the fixed tank pipe.

6. Lower the car.

7. Grip the pipe under the rear wing with one hand and extract the fuel filler pipe from the collar at the filler cap. Use a screwdriver.


8. Pull out the pipe slightly for better access when detaching the tank breather hose.

9. Pull out the filler pipe.


To fit



1. Place the car on a lift.

2. Fit the fuel filler pipe to the collar at the filler cap.

3. Raise the car.

4. Fit the rubber hoses and the plastic hose connecting the filler pipe to the fixed tank pipe.

Important

The hoses to the filler pipe must always be replaced with new ones after removing the filler pipe. They must not be refitted as there is risk of them cracking.


Tightening torques:

Hose clips: 2.2 Nm (1.6 lbf ft)

5. Fit a new plastic screw.

Tightening torque: 1.5 Nm (1.1 lbf ft)

Important

It is essential that the old screw is replaced with a new one in plastic. In case of a collision, the plastic screw must give to prevent damage to the filler pipe, which is also plastic.


6. Fit the rear right wheel.

7. Lower the car to the floor.
