P0442
Read the instructions below then
start the fault diagnostic procedure.
Symptom: CHECK ENGINE lamp goes on after two driving cycles. Possible smell of petrol.
EVAP. Small Leakage in System.
Before this DTC can be set, the cold start diagnosis must first be carried out and then the ordinary diagnosis. The engine coolant temperature must be below 40C (104F) when the engine is started, to achieve this. A DTC can therefore
not
be generated if the engine is warm when started.
To perform a final check on a rectified fault, use the activating command on the diagnostic tool so that the cold start test is performed irrespective of the starting temperature.

Conditions
•
Diagnosis not yet performed during this driving cycle.
•
No fault on oxygen sensor 1
•
Diagnosis commenced less than 8 times during this driving cycle.
•
Approved transition diagnosis of oxygen sensor 1.
•
Vehicle speed = 0 for 7 sec.
•
Car stationary for more than 5 sec.
•
Max. one change of status of the brake light switch.
•
The purge valve PWM has exceeded 40 % at some time
•
Additional fuel from purge <7 % of that required by engine
P0455: Major leak. When the inlet air to the EVAP canister is shut off and the purge is active, the pressure in the tank will not drop. The diagnosis will start by activating the close valve and the purge valve PWM will be set to 15% when the conditions above have been fulfilled. The additional fuel from the purge is allowed to amount to 13% of the engine's requirement.
P0442: Minor leak. The pressure in the tank drops when the inlet air to the EVAP canister is shut off and purge is active. However, the pressure rises too rapidly once the purge ceases.
Diagnostic help
This diagnostic trouble code indicates a leak in any of the following components:
•
Filler cap, e.g. not tightened or damaged seal
•
Filler pipe or vent pipe
•
Line from roll-over valve to EVAP canister
•
EVAP canister close valve
•
Line from EVAP canister to purge valve
The diagnosis can start and the result seen with the diagnostic tool. The tank level must be below 85% for the diagnosis to start.
