Basic charging pressure
Basic charging pressure |
The basic charging pressure is adjusted mechanically on the pushrod between the diaphragm box and the turbo wastegate.
If the basic charging pressure is too low, this means that the pressure build-up during acceleration is too slow and the engine responds by opening the throttle rapidly.
If the basic charging pressure is too high, there will be negative adaptation of the boost pressure and maximum boost pressure will not be reached. There is also a risk of engine damage as the pressure during knock control will not be low enough.
Basic charging pressure should be 0,40±0,03 bar.
After adjustment, the pushrod must be prestressed at least 2 turns (2 mm). This is to ensure the wastegate is completely closed when inactive.
The basic charging pressure on new turbo units tends to lie at the high end of the tolerance range with a prestress of 2 turns. Prestress must never exceed 2 turns (2 mm) however!
It should be noted that when checking basic charging pressure, the pressure will drop at high engine speeds and rise at low outdoor temperatures.
