Cooling

B. Cooling

The turbocharger is cooled by water which lowers the bearing housing temperature by about 100C (212F). The lower temperature reduces the risk of carbonization and consequent damage. The liquid used for cooling is piped from a passage in the engine block. After passing the bearing housing the cooling liquid continues through a pipe to the thermostat housing. When the engine is switched off and the coolant pump stops pumping, the coolant in the system will continue to circulate through thermosiphon action.
