Before changing a control module

Before changing a control module

Experience has shown that the majority of control modules returned under the warranty repairs scheme are sound. This means that, although the control module has been replaced, the fault has not been rectified. Always, therefore, check the following before replacing a control module:

1. Check in the latest issue of TIS2000 whether the current problem is rectified by a software update of the control module (for the control modules which permit reprogramming).

2. Check all grounding points and power supply to the control module.

3. Use the diagnostic tool to check that all read values are reasonable (several read values can affect a function).

4. Use the diagnostic tool to check that all activations work (faults in one output circuit can affect another output circuit).

5. If the fault remains the control module must be replaced.

6. The control module is sensitive to electrostatic discharges. To avoid damage to the internal components of the control module a replacement must take place with care as follows:

Keep the control module in its packaging for as long as possible

Never touch the pins on a control module with hands or clothing

Ground yourself by means of touching the car's body/engine. Remove the connector on the car's control module

Place the replaced control module in the return packaging without touching its pins

Ground yourself by means of touching the car's body/engine. Connect the connector on the car's control module
