Engine management system diagnostics, immobilization function

Engine management system diagnostics, immobilization function

The main instrument unit is connected to the bus and diagnostics communication takes place via DICE, see .

The main instrument unit forms part of the immobilization function and acts as a link between TWICE and the engine management system. The main instrument unit communicates on the lead between pin 22 (K22) and Trionic pin 33/Motronic pin 55. Communication with TWICE takes place on the bus. The lead from the engine management system which is used for the immobilization function is also used for diagnostics communication with the engine management system. To make this possible, a relay (immobilization switch) built into the main instrument unit switches between the diagnostics function and the immobilization function. The diagnostic tool communicates via data link connector pin 7 to pin 16 (K22) of the main instrument unit.

When the ignition is switched ON, codes are exchanged for 2 seconds between the engine management system and TWICE. Not until then can communication be established between the diagnostic tool and the engine management system.
