Background

The nut (M6) securing the rear window wiper on the cars concerned may come loose, preventing the rear window wiper from functioning satisfactorily.

The nuts (M8) securing the windshield wiper arms on the cars concerned may come loose, preventing the windshield wipers from functioning satisfactorily.

Rectify as follows after customer complaint.

Parts required

(16) 74 96 268 Loctite 242 (CA: 12345382)



Procedure

Rear window wiper arm



1. Lift the protective cover and undo the nut.

2. If the wiper arm comes loose from the lead through, align the centre of the blade to the edge of the black area on the left-hand side of the window.

3. Apply a few drops of Loctite 242, part no. (16) 74 96 268, to the thread in the nut and fit the nut.

Tightening torque: 8.5 Nm (6.2 lbf ft)

4. Check the function.


Windshield wiper arm



1. Remove the protective cover with a screwdriver.

2. Remove the nut.

3. Apply a few drops of Loctite 242, part no. (16) 74 96 268, to the thread in the nut and fit the nut.

Tightening torque: 20 Nm (14.7 lbf ft)

4. Fit the protective cover and repeat the procedure on the other wiper arm.

5. Check the function.
