P0705
Symptom: CHECK GEARBOX warning lamp on.
TCM in Limp-Home mode.
Selector Position Sensor. Input Wrong.
Fault symptoms
CHECK GEARBOX warning lamp on.
TCM in Limp-Home mode.
Conditions
Impermissible combination of the selector lever position sensor's voltage inputs to the TCM.
Diagnostic help
The diagnostics instrument can be used to obtain readings of the selector lever position sensor's voltage inputs.
Select "
Data Display / Output Control (New)"
Select "
Selector Lever Position"
The diagnostics instrument shows the status of all voltage inputs, ON (B+) and OFF (ground).
If the selector lever position sensor is found to be faulty, it could be caused by a short circuit in the wiring harness. Before replacing the sensor, check the wiring harness for shorting to ground.
Check the wiring
Jiggle the wiring harness at several points and in different directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short circuits in the various leads. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic instrument while carrying out this check.
Diagnostic procedure
1 Is the gear selector position sensor correctly adjusted?
Continue with step 2.
Adjust
Gear selector position sensor
and continue with point 4.
2 Check the power supply to gear selector position sensor
-
Unplug connector H10-1 (10-pin connector, located behind the battery).
-
Connect a test lamp between pin 8 in the female connector and a good grounding point.
The lamp should go on.
All OK?
Continue with step 3.
Rectify the relevant lead and continue with step 4, final check.
3 Check the gear selector position sensor inputs on the control module.
-
Turn the ignition to the ON position.
-
Connect a jumper lead between:
8-1
(read voltage input pin A)
8-2
(read voltage input pin B)
8-3
(read voltage input pin C)
8-4
(read voltage input pin PA)
The diagnostic tool should display OFF in open position and ON when the respective connector pin is connected to pin 8 (B+).
All OK?
Change the gear selector position sensor and continue with step 4, final check.
Rectify the relevant lead and continue with step 4, final check.
4 Final check
-
Clear all diagnostic trouble codes in the system.
-
Perform a driving cycle:
•
Drive the car at varying loads and engine speeds for 5 minutes.
-
Evaluate the driving cycle:
•
Make sure the diagnostic trouble code has not recurred.
Has the trouble code recurred?
