Road test schedule
Road test schedule |
This schedule is intended as a guide during road testing when checking customer complaints concerning automatic transmissions AF20/AF22. Note that applicable speed limits must not be exceeded.
Before starting the road test:
- |
Check the level of the fluid in the gearbox before starting the road test.
|
Road test:
1. |
Check the operation of the starting interlock switch:
|
- |
Try to start the car with the selector lever in position
P
or
N
.
|
- |
Try to start the car with the selector lever in a position other than
P
or
N
.
|
2. |
Check the positions of the selector lever:
|
- |
Check the "feel" of the selector lever to make sure that it stays in each position and does not “jump out” of the selected gear.
|
3. |
Check reverse gear:
|
- |
Reverse the car in the normal manner, checking at the same time that the reversing lights come on.
|
4. |
Listen for mechanical noise:
|
- |
Start in position
D
. Drive the car so that the transmission shifts up and down. Listen for unusual sounds coming from the transmission. If excessive noise can be heard, break off the road test immediately and return to the garage. Carry out fault diagnosis as described in “Mechanical faults without diagnostics code”.
|
5. |
Check the operation of the transmission while driving:
Sport mode (S) |
- |
The transmission should downshift faster.
Winter mode (W) |
- |
Start in position
D
. The transmission should start in 3rd gear so that the car moves off smoothly. Check that the Kickdown function is in satisfactory working order.
Normal position |
- |
Start in position
D
. Check shifting speed at the lightest possible acceleration. Also note whether shifting is characterized by slippage or jerkiness. Check whether the Lock-up function is present.
|
- |
Start in position
D
. Depress the accelerator to the kickdown position (fully depressed). After 1-2 shifts, go down to just before the Kickdown position (85% throttle opening). Check the shifting speeds for the type of engine fitted. Also note whether shifting is characterized by slippage or jerkiness. Check whether the Lock-up function is present.
DRIVING HINTS! |
- |
Start in position
D
. Depress the accelerator to the Kickdown position at different speeds. Check the
highest
shifting speed when Kickdown downshifting takes place.
|
- |
Stop the car on a level road with the selector lever in position
N
. Release the brakes and press the accelerator slightly. Does the car move forward?
|
- |
Start in position
3
. Drive the car until 3rd gear is engaged. Move the selector lever to position
1
at a higher speed and let the car decelerate. Check the shifting points during deceleration.
|
- |
Start in position
1
. Accelerate and check whether engine braking is obtainable.
|
- |
Place the selector lever in position
P
when the car is stationary on a downhill gradient and release the brakes. Does the car move?
