To remove |
Removal entails the complete gear-lever housing with selector rod.

Remove the negative lead from the battery.

To access the gear-lever housing and selector rod, the left seat and the centre console with side trim must first be removed. See 8, Interior equipment, adjustment/replacement.

Remove the air duct.
|
4. |
Engage 4th gear.
|
5. |
Remove the plastic plug on the gearbox and insert
87 92 335 Locking pin
with the ring up.

6. |
Loosen the clamp securing the selector rod to the linkage in the gearbox from above.

7. |
Engage 3rd gear to separate the selector rod and linkage on the gearbox.
|
8. |
Remove the bolts securing the gear-lever housing, lift it up and turn it over.
|
9. |
Remove the two clamps securing the ignition switch wiring to the gear-lever housing.
|
10. |
Unplug the connector on the ignition switch.
|
11. |
Pull the gear-lever housing backwards and lift it out together with the selector rod.

To fit |

Make sure that 4th gear is locked with
87 92 335 Locking pin
(with the ring up) in the gearbox.

2. |
Place the gear-lever housing with selector rod in the car and guide the selector rod through the grommet in the bulkhead.

3. |
Connect the wiring to the ignition switch.
|
4. |
Secure the ignition switch wiring to the gearcase with two cable ties.
|
5. |
Fit the gearcase with four bolts.
|
6. |
Engage 4th gear and insert
87 92 335 Locking pin
in the gear-lever housing. The ring on the locking pin must be inside the hole.

7. |
Tighten the nut on the clamp securing the selector rod to the linkage on the gearbox from above.
Tightening torque 21 Nm (15 lbf ft) |
8. |
Remove the locking pin from the gearbox and insert the plastic plug.

9. |
Remove the locking pin from the gear-lever housing and try changing gear.
|
10. |
Fit the air duct.
|
11. |
Fit the centre console with side trim and the left seat as described in 8, Interior equipment, Adjustment/replacement.

12. |
Connect the negative lead to the battery.
