A level switch is integrated into the brake fluid reservoir. It consists of a float and two contact pins. When the float descends due to low fluid level, it short circuits the pins and the brake fluid warning light goes on (this takes place when the level has dropped about one third of the full level). When the ignition is switched on, the lamp is grounded by the generator, making the lamp go on continuously. Once the engine has been started and the generator starts charging, the lamp will go out if the brake fluid level is correct. In this way, the function of the warning lamp is checked each time the ignition is switched on.
