Servo cylinder

Servo cylinder

1. Rack

2. Piston

3. Control valve

The cylinder is part of the steering gear housing. On the rack (1) there is a piston (2) fitted with seals. For the flow of servo fluid to and from the control valve, there are two connections on the servo cylinder, one on each side of the piston. During a right turn, the hydraulic fluid is pumped to the right-hand section of the servo cylinder.

The piston and the rack are displaced to the left and the left-hand section of the servo cylinder is drained of hydraulic fluid via the control valve (3) to the reservoir. The left-hand bellows is extended at the same time as the right-hand one is compressed.

The movement of the rack is transferred to the steering swivel member arms via the track rods and track-rod ends.
