The steering column assembly is bolted to the steering wheel member bracket which is suspended on the bulkhead. The steering column is connected to the steering gear via an intermediate shaft with universal joint.
For reasons of safety, the steering column is telescopic and the intermediate shaft fitted with a universal joint to minimize the steering gear penetration in the event of a frontal collision. This also entails the steering column being displaced in a favourable direction for the driver during a collision.
The position of the steering wheel spokes is altered by adjusting the right and left-hand toe-in.
The steering wheel is laterally adjustable with the steering column adjustment lever.
