Condenser

Condenser

The function of the condenser is to cool down the gaseous refrigerant so that it condenses into liquid form. For greatest effectiveness in cooling, the refrigerant is directed in four coils through the condenser. The first coil is divided up into 14 channels, the second coil 9 channels, the third in 7 and the last coil consists of 4 channels. This design makes it possible to minimise the size of the condenser without a loss of capacity. The condenser on the Saab 9-3 is available in one version, 18 mm.

The pressure sensor is located on the right side of the condenser and the receiver is positioned on the left side.

Refrigerant R134a

A liquid designated as R134a is used in the Saab 9-3. R134a boils and evaporates at a temperature of -30˚C at normal air pressure. When the refrigerant is evaporated in the evaporator, it absorbs heat from the surrounding air. The cooled air is then directed into the cabin. R134a is a chlorine-free refrigerant that does not harm the atmospheric ozone layer.
