Evaporator

Evaporator

The evaporator is located in the climate control unit. It consists of a heat exchanger (cabin air/refrigerant), where the refrigerant flows through a pipe system with cooling flanges.

The incoming refrigerant expands and boils (evaporates) in the evaporator, absorbing heat from the pipes with cooling flanges. In turn, the cooling flanges are heated by the incoming/recirculating cabin air. When the heat is absorbed, condensation is formed on the outside of the evaporator. This condensation is drained out into the engine compartment through a hose. Under certain climate conditions, relatively large puddles of water can collect under a parked car.

The evaporator is available in different design depending on if the car is a LHD or RHD.

The spare evaporator for after-market purposes is provided with split pipes to facilitate mounting.
