Manifold absolute pressure sensor
The task of the pressure sensor is to inform the engine control module of the current pressure in the intake manifold.
The pressure sensor has the following connections
1.
Power supply: Pin 1 on the pressure sensor is connected to pin 82 on the engine control module.
2.
Sensor ground: Pin 2 on the pressure sensor is connected to pin 93 on the engine control module
3.
Signal, pressure in intake manifold: Pin 3 on the pressure sensor is connected to pin 85 on the engine control module
The pressure sensor is located on top of the intake manifold on the left-hand side of the engine. It is a piezoresistive sensor with its own electronics for signal amplification and temperature compensation. The electronics are all semi-conductor type integrated on a chip.
The voltage of the pressure sensor changes with the pressure.
If the sensor input is short-circuited to B+, diagnostic trouble code P0120 will be generated.
If the sensor input is short-circuited to ground, diagnostic trouble code P0121 will be generated.
System reaction to a fault
•
As soon as the control module detects a fault, the substitute value of 1024 hPa is used.
•
The diagnostic instrument reading is 350 kPa when P0120 has been generated.
•
The diagnostic instrument reading is 0 kPa when P0121 has been generated.
