Diagnostics communication

Diagnostics communication

The Trionic control module communicates with the diagnostic tool via pin 33. The K-lead is connected to the data link connector via the MIU. TWICE and Trionic exchange immobilizer information via MIU when the ignition is turned on. Trionic with OBD II for US and CA markets does not have this immobilizer function but the electrical connection is identical.

The diagnostic tool can communicate with Trionic when the ignition is on and the engine is running but also for 15 minutes after the ignition has been turned off. Of course, it will not then be possible to activate functions requiring +15 or +54 supply.

Diagnosis

Diagnostic communication in MIU passes an integrated relay. Normally, MIU will activate the relay so that the immobilizer code can be exchanged between TWICE and Trionic whenever necessary. When the diagnostic tool communicates with Trionic, MIU will release the relay, whereby the diagnostic tool and Trionic become connected. This means that diagnostic communication with Trionic is possible even when the power supply or ground to MIU is absent.

Diagnostic trouble code P1640 or P1641 will be generated if the code from TWICE is incorrect or missing (B204E for Swedish market only).
