Cars in stock must be remedied before delivery.

A personal communication must be sent to the owners of cars already delivered requesting them to get in touch with the nearest Saab garage as soon as possible to have the fault rectified.

Cars affected

Saab 9-3 Viggen M99 with VIN X7020001 - X7063257

Background

The rear oxygen sensor cable on certain cars may be lying too close to the intermediate shaft, which means that the cable sheath and insulation can be damaged. This is caused by the cable being poorly secured.

Symptom description

Chafed cable

Parts required

Insulating tape

79 71 880 Cable tie

46 60 502 Oxygen sensor (if outer sheath worn through only)

Procedure

Check box C3 on the modification identity plate before taking any action. Continue as follows if the box is not marked.

1. Check the oxygen sensor cable in the illustrated area

2. If only the outer sheath of the oxygen sensor cable is chafed, it will suffice to insulate the damaged area with insulating tape. Continue to step 4.

3. If the cable has been damaged down to the insulation then the oxygen sensor must be replaced. See WIS - Engine - Trionic T7 OBD2 - Adjustment/replacement - Rear oxygen sensor. Do not forget to secure the cable with the cable tie as described in steps 5-7.

4. Cut off the cable tie securing the rear oxygen sensor cable to the oil filler pipe.

5. Run the cable so it is not resting against the intermediate shaft. It must not be taut either

6. Secure the cable to the oil filler pipe with a new cable tie.

7. Cut off the loose end of the cable tie.

Marking the modification identity plate

Mark box C3 on the modification identity plate after performing this procedure. Mark with the number "7" if the procedure has been performed by the importer or with the number "8" if performed by the dealer.
