Avoid disconnecting the battery as far as possible.
|

Make sure you connect the battery correctly. The wrong battery polarity can damage the car.
Therefore, always connect:
|
|
|

|
The plus battery cable (red) to the battery's positive terminal.
|
|
|
•
|
The minus battery cable (black) to the battery's negative terminal.
When temporarily using an external power source, e.g. another battery:
|
|
|
•
|
Always connect a positive terminal to a positive terminal.
|
|
|
•
|
Always connect a negative terminal to ground.
|
|

|
Never disconnect the battery while the engine is running.
|
|
3.
|
Do not boost-charge the battery other than in exceptional cases. One of the battery terminals must be disconnected while boost-charging.
Do not boost-charge batteries more than two years old.
Warning
|
|
The battery contains acid that is corrosive. If acid gets in the eyes rinse thoroughly with water for at least 10 minutes.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|

|
Always wear rubber gloves and goggles when doing any work involving the risk of acid being splashed about.
|
|
5.
|
Make sure the battery is always standing upright. Otherwise acid may leak out and cause injury or damage.
|
|
6.
|
Never place tools or other objects on top of the battery.
|
|
Important points to bear in mind

Never:
|
1.
|
disconnect the battery while the engine is running.
|
|
2.
|
remove the generator while the battery is connected.
|
|
3.
|
test-run the generator, in the car or on a test bench, without first connecting up the battery.
|
|
4.
|
connect the battery with the wrong polarity. This can damage the car.
|
|
Important
|
|
When welding electrically on the car the battery connections and all connections to the generator should be disconnected. Otherwise, the electrical components may be destroyed
|
