Supplementary rust protection

Service campaign 118 43

Cars in stock must be remedied before delivery.

Cars already delivered must be rectified in connection with a scheduled visit to the garage for service or repairs.

Cars affected

Saab 9-3 CV M98 - M00 up to and including VIN Y7015106

Background

On the 9-3 CV, there is a spot-welded joint of several sheets of metal by the B-pillar where the ED paint may not have been applied properly. These surfaces can therefore be subjected to moisture and may as a result corrode.

Parts required

16-30 15 930 Teroson Terotex HV 400 T129

43 45 872 Rivet (1), used as necessary, 4 per car

Procedure

Before proceeding, check the appropriate box on the modification identity plate.

M98: Check box B1.

M99: Check box D1, new modification identity plate fitted as described in SI 801-2268.

M00: Check box B1.

If the box is not marked, proceed as follows.

Important

Apply the anti-corrosion treatment to a warm body, preferably outdoors in sunshine or indoors at room temperature. The car should remain in the warmth for 2-3 hours after application.

1. Lower the soft top (open).

2. Lower the side window half way.

3. Remove the cover from the B-pillar.

4. Liberally apply anti-corrosion treatment to the joints (use a spray gun, HV compressed air gun T931, part no. 30 21 011, with round jet nozzle and a reduced pressure of 1.5 bar). The lower parts of the joints are difficult to access from above, but by applying the treatment liberally on the upper parts, excess anti-corrosion treatment will easily run down along the joint. Apply the anti-corrosion treatment to and around the striker plate.

5. The water barrier can sometimes obscure the joints and must therefore be shifted during application using a long screwdriver.

6. Wipe any anti-corrosion treatment from exterior surfaces.

7. Fit the cover.

8. Check that the water barrier is correctly positioned after application.

9. Repeat the procedure on the other side.

10. Wind up and clean the windows.

11. Raise the soft top (close).

Marking the modification identity plate

On completion of the necessary rectification, box B1 for M98, D1 for M99 (a new, additional modification identity plate is required, see SI 801-2268) and B1 for M00 on the modification identity plate must be marked. If the work is carried out by the importer, mark the box with a "7". If done by the dealer, mark it with an "8".
