Background

The wiring harness to the front seat belt lock device can be damaged. It is possible for the seat frame to crush the cables when the seat is in its lowest position. This will result in unsatisfactory function of the seat belt warning light.

Materials

79 91 880 Cable tie, 2 pcs.

48 48 529 Seat belt buckle (if appropriate)

Procedure

Before taking any action, check whether the cables are fastened to the side panel with cable ties. If they are, the seat has already been updated.

Fit a cable tie to keep the cables in place on the inner seat panel. This procedure must be carried out on both front seats if they are electrically adjustable .

1. Raise the seat to its highest position.

2. Check to see whether the wiring harness is damaged.

If the harness is undamaged, proceed with step 11.

Note

If the cable sleeve is damaged and it is difficult to see whether the cables themselves are also damaged, cut the sleeve approx. 2 cm along the length of the damage and inspect the cables. If they are undamaged, close the sleeve with tape and secure it according to the instructions.

If the wiring harness is damaged, the seat-belt buckle must be replaced. Proceed with step 3.

3. Remove the seat from the floor consoles. See WIS: 8. Body/Seats.

4. Loosen the strip on the back of the seat base.

5. Cut off the cable tie and detach the connector.

6. Unscrew the belt buckle.

7. Screw on the new seat-belt buckle.

Tightening torque: 45 Nm (33 lbf ft)

8. Plug in the connector and fit the cable tie.

9. Fasten the strip on the back of the seat base.

10. Fit the seat. See WIS: 8. Body/Seats.

Tightening torque: 24 Nm (18 lbf ft)

11. Drill a 6 mm hole in the seat panel as illustrated.

12. Fasten the cables with a cable tie. Make sure the cable tie is not too visible.

13. Make sure the cable runs freely by raising and lowering the seat a few times.
