Piston rings
Piston rings |
1. |
Push the piston rings down into the cylinder one by one, using a piston to position them correctly.
|
2. |
Measure the ring gap with a feeler gauge as shown. If necessary, widen the gap by means of a special file.
For correct gap sizes, see
.
|
Matching to a worn cylinder |
1. |
Push the piston rings down into the cylinders one by one all the way down to the lower dead centre position, as the cylinder bore is narrowest there. Use a piston to get the ring into the correct position.
|
2. |
Measure the ring gap with a feeler gauge as shown. If necessary, widen the gap by means of a special file.
For correct gap sizes, see
.
|
Fitting piston rings onto the piston |
1. |
Clean the grooves in the piston for the piston rings using an old ring.
|
2. |
Check the piston ring clearance in the respective grooves in the piston. For measurements, see
.
|
3. |
Use a piston ring clamp when fitting the rings onto the piston, see illustration. The lower compression ring must be fitted so that the side marked "TOP" is facing upwards.
|
4. |
Rotate the piston rings so that the working gaps are displaced 120°, see illustration.
