2. Detach the vacuum hose from the EGR valve.

3. Note the position of the fuel rail clamps and remove them.

4. Disconnect the fuel return hoses and fuel rails.

5. Remove the fuel bridge retaining bolts and pull the fuel bridges out of the cylinder head.

6. Remove the valve bridges.

Important

Note how the valve bridges are fitted. The markings are on the side of the valve bridges facing the fuel bridges.

7. Lift up the valve tappets with magnetic tool 83 91 401.

8. Remove the seals on the injector connections in the cylinder head.

To fit

1. Clean all removed parts and inspect for wear. Change if necessary.

2. Fit new seals on the injector connections in the cylinder head.

3. Lubricate the valve tappets with engine oil and position them on the cylinder head.

4. Fit new O-rings on the fuel bridges and slide them into the cylinder head.

5. Tighten the fuel bridge bolts by hand and one revolution with a spanner.

6. Fit the valve bridges.

Important

Note how the valve bridges are fitted. The markings are on the side of the valve bridges facing the fuel bridges.

7. Check the fuel rail connecting cones and replace if necessary.

8. Connect the fuel rails, making sure they are not strained. Tighten the rail connections.

Tightening torque: 25 Nm (18.5 lbf ft).

9. Fit the fuel rail clamps in the same way as previously.

10. Check the condition of the fuel return hoses and joints and replace if necessary.

11. Connect the fuel return hoses to the fuel bridges. Pull off the connection on the fuel pump and connect pressure/vacuum pump 30 14 883. Pump up a vacuum of 750 mbar and wait for 1 minute. Make sure the dial on the tool has not moved.

If a leak is detected, the fuel bridges must be inspected individually. Remove the fuel bridge with the leak, change the seal and refit the fuel bridge. Make sure there are no more leaks.
