Remove any carbon deposits from the top of the cylinder bores.

Using the lifting beam, part no. 83 94 850, hook the lifting cable, part no. 87 92 251, to the gearbox. Disconnect the oxygen sensor cable.

Raise the car and drain the engine oil. Remove the front exhaust pipe, the front wheels and the air shields.

Remove the track rod end nuts from both sides and remove the rear engine mounting. Use
89 96 696 Puller
. Position a lifting table under the engine. Raise the lifting table, undo the other bolts and lower the subframe.

Remove the protective plate and oil sump. Leave the guide sleeve in the cylinder block. Wipe up any oil that has dripped out.

Remove the gudgeon pin locking ring and tap out the gudgeon pin with a plastic mallet and drift. Remove the crankshaft.
