Fuel filter

Fuel filter

Warning

Removing and fitting the fuel filter involves work on the car's fuel system. The following points must therefore be considered in connection with the work:



Make provision for good ventilation! If approved ventilation for extracting fuel fumes is available then it must be used.

Use protective gloves! Prolonged contact with fuel may irritate the skin.

Keep a class BE fire extinguisher close at hand! Watch out for sparks, e.g. in connection with breaking electric circuits, short-circuits, etc.

Smoking is absolutely forbidden.


To remove



1. Raise the car and place a receptacle under the fuel filter container.

2. Remove the protective cover in front of the fuel filter and carefully tap the filter container away from its mounting. Use a drift.

3. Lift down the filter container.

Important

Be careful with the wiring harness for the filter pre-heating and the auxiliary heater fuel pump.


4. Carefully clamp the soft section of the fuel hoses with 30 07 739 Pinch-off pliers .

5. Undo the drain plug in the bottom of the fuel filter container and the top screw of the filter cup and empty the filter.

6. Undo the top screw completely and remove the filter together with the filter cup.


7. Dismantle the filter and clean the filter cup.

Important

If the fuel filter is blocked, check for leaks from the fuel bridges.



To fit


Important

Replace the seals before fitting them.



1. Fit the filter in the filter cup.

2. Refit the filter cup and filter, see the illustration.

3. Make sure the fuel filter container drain plug is tightened, remove the hose clamp pliers and fit the fuel filter container.


Important

Be careful with the wiring harness for the filter pre-heating and the auxiliary heater fuel pump.


4. Fit the protective cover and lower the car.

5. Start the engine and check the integrity of the system.

If the engine stalls due to air in the fuel system, the system must be bled.
