Crankshaft position sensor

Crankshaft position sensor

The crankshaft position sensor is located at the flywheel end of the engine block.

To remove

1. Remove the resonator above the throttle body.

2. Release the cable to the sensor by unplugging the connector.

3. Cut the cable tie and remove the cables.

Important

Observe how the cables are run and the positioning of the cable ties.

4. Remove the sensor retaining screws and remove the sensor.

Note

Observe how the sealing ring is seated.

To fit

1. Clean the sensor seating and fit the sensor with the sealing ring correctly positioned.

Tightening torque: 8 Nm (5.9 lbf ft)

2. Replace the cables and reattach with cable ties.

3. Plug in the connector.

4. Fit the resonator above the throttle body.

Important

The O-rings between the resonator and throttle body can when fitting be incorrectly positioned, which means the engine receives air that has not passed through the mass air flow sensor. This can cause problems with driveability resulting in the need for fault diagnosis.

When any work is done that involves removing the resonating chamber from the throttle body, the following steps must always be taken:

Check the condition of the O-rings and that they are properly seated.

Replace any O-rings that are deformed.

Grease the O-rings with non-acidic petroleum jelly (vaseline).
