Throttle cable

Throttle cable

To remove

1. Remove the resonating chamber or the cover over the intake manifold.

2. Undo the clip and unhook the throttle cable from the cable mounting. Remove the clip and cable from the link arm.

3. Remove the lower section of the dashboard and unhook the throttle cable from the accelerator.

4. Grasp the plastic sleeve and pull the throttle cable through the bulkhead partition and into the engine bay.

To fit

1. Fit the throttle cable to the cable mounting and refit the clip.

2. Hook the throttle cable onto the link arm and insert the cable through the bulkhead partition.

3. Connect the throttle cable to the accelerator.

4. Manual gearbox:

Place a 5 mm (0.2 in) spacer on the pedal stop.

5. Manual gearbox:

Depress the pedal against the spacer.

Turn the adjusting sleeve until the throttle valve is fully open and then turn it back half a turn.

Automatic Transmission:

Press the pedal down until it rests on the kickdown switch.

Turn the adjusting sleeve until the throttle valve is fully open and then turn it back half a turn. Be careful to avoid pressing the switch down.

6. Release the accelerator and adjust the idling position of the throttle cable by means of the adjusting screw in the upper part of the pedal. The cable should then have a small amount of free play.

7. Refit the resonating chamber or the cover over the intake manifold.

Important

During assembly the O-rings between the resonating chamber and throttle body may be incorrectly positioned with the result that the engine takes in air that has not passed through the mass air flow sensor. This could impair driveability with consequent fault diagnosis measures.

When any work is done that involves removing the resonating chamber from the throttle body, the following steps must always be taken:

Check the condition of the O-rings and that they are properly seated. Replace any that are deformed.

Grease the O-rings with non-acidic petroleum jelly (vaseline).

8. Fit the lower section of the dashboard.
