To remove

1. Loosen the circlip and remove the ring gear.

2. Knock out the lock lugs on the locknut.

3. Place the shaft in a vise and remove the nut.

4. Press the output shaft outwards from the pinion using 87 92 210 Support, differential bearing in a hydraulic press. Hold the shaft to make sure it does not drop to the floor.

5. Remove the spacer sleeve.

6. If necessary, remove the bearing races from the intermediate gear using a hammer and drift

7. Remove the tapered inner roller bearings using tools, 87 91 642 Basic tool and an M10 nut as support. Rotate the shaft several times while tightening the tool.

To fit

1. Press the bearing onto the pinion shaft. Lubricate with automatic transmission fluid, use 87 91 204 Sleeve, bearing race

2. Press the bearing race on one side into the intermediate gear towards the inner circlip. Use 87 91 204 Sleeve, bearing race and the old bearing race as a spacer. Press in the other side's bearing race in the same manner.

3. Fit the spacer sleeve.

4. Position the intermediate gear. Lubricate the bearings with automatic transmission fluid.

5. Fit the tapered bearing by carefully pressing it inwards towards the spacer ring. Use 87 91 204 Sleeve, bearing race .

6. Carefully press in the pinion using 87 91 204 Sleeve, bearing race .

7. Press in the bearing races on the output shaft.

8. Carefully tighten the nut to the correct pretension. Bearing preload for new bearings must be 5.5 - 13.5 kgf/cm. Lock the nut.

9. Turn the planetary gear over and position the ring gear. Pinch off the circlip and allow the gear to drop into place.
