Procedure in the event of poor shifting performance


Fault symptoms

Difficulty engaging or disengaging gears.

Conditions

A new transmission oil, Saab MTF 0063 which improves shifting properties, has been produced from January 1st 2002. This oil can also be used on older cars from and including M94 (Cabriolet from and including 95) to improve shifting properties, on condition that the instructions under the heading "Procedure" are followed.

Important

The new oil must not be mixed with other types of oil due to risk of damage to the gearbox.


Action


1. Drain the gearbox of oil by undoing drainage plug 3.


2. Fill with 1.5 litres of the new oil (plug 1).

3. Raise the car so that the front wheels hang freely.

4. Start the engine, engage 1st gear and allow the engine to drive the front wheels for approx. 20-30 sec. Stop the engine and lower the car.

5. Drain the gearbox of oil again by undoing drainage plug 3.

6. Fill with 1.5 litres of the new oil (plug 1).

7. Raise the car so that the front wheels hang freely.

8. Start the engine, engage 1st gear and allow the engine to drive the front wheels for approx. 20-30 sec. Stop the engine and lower the car.

9. Drain the gearbox of oil again by undoing drainage plug (3).

10. Fill the gearbox with new oil to the correct level (1.5-1.8 litres) (check with level plug 2).

11. Clean the area around the radiator crossmember by the left headlamp, remove the label and warning triangle from the bottle/can and affix it firmly to the radiator crossmember

12. Remove the small label from the bottle/can and affix it over the existing text on gearbox oil in the owner's manual under the section “Technical data”.
