Background |
On certain cars, the seal in the right-hand wheel housings can come loose and rest in the wrong position. Consequently, the noise from the bypass valve can be heard inside the car.
After customer complaint, the noise from the bypass valve can be reduced by taking the measures below.

Procedure |
Inspection
Check whether the wheel housing seal is in the correct position by removing the light cluster. Swing out the light cluster and look into the wheel housing with the aid of a flashlight.
If the wheel housing seal is not in place, fit it as described below.
Fitting
1. |
Remove the wheel.

2. |
Remove the inner fender (wing) liner.
|
3. |
Retrieve the seal and clean the edges.
|
4. |
Place a strip of butyl tape along the edge of the seal as illustrated.
|
5. |
Fit the seal.
|
6. |
Fit the inner fender (wing) liner, wheel and light cluster.
|
7. |
Test drive the car and check that a noise is not heard from the bypass valve.
