Central locking system operation, tailgate

Locking and unlocking tailgate (3 and 5-door bodies)

Lock

+30 voltage is supplied via fuse 25 to pin 47 on the TWICE control module.

The tailgate is locked together with all other central locking motors. Central locking is achieved with the key, remote control or automatic locking (only tailgate). When the tailgate is locked, the TWICE control module receives a signal at:

Pin 56, key lock, driver's door

Pin 32, key lock, front passenger door

Pin 14, locking with remote control

The TWICE control module outputs a short voltage impulse from pin 2 to relay 493 to the lock motor (184H).

The tailgate lock motor is grounded to TWICE pins 44 and 67.

Unlock

+30 voltage is supplied via fuse 25 to pin 47 on the TWICE control module.

Switch 388 on the driver's door feeds, when activated, ground to TWICE control module pin 11. In turn, the control module outputs a short impulse from pin 67 to the tailgate lock motor (184H), and the tailgate is opened.

When switch 622 is activated by the key being turned, ground is fed to pin 59 on the TWICE module which in turn outputs a voltage impulse via pin 67 to the tailgate lock motor 184H. The tailgate is unlocked and can be opened with the tailgate handle.

The tailgate can also be unlocked with the remote control. The aerial unit feeds, when receiving a signal, ground to TWICE control module pin 51.

When the tailgate is opened, the switch for luggage compartment lighting is closed, which in turn contacts the TWICE control module. TWICE sends a bus message “TAILGATE OPEN“ when the tailgate is open. This is used by the main instrument that lights up lamp 213j door indication, tailgate (pictogram).

The tailgate lock motor 184H is grounded on the control module pins 2 and 44. Switch 622 is grounded in grounding point G3.

The aerial unit is grounded in grounding point G33P on LHD cars, and in grounding point G34S on RHD.

Switch 388 is grounded in grounding point G35 on LHD cars, and in grounding point G24 for RHD.

Open tailgate (convertible)

The convertible tailgate is designed without a handle. When unlocking, the tailgate pops open somewhat due to spring action.

+30 voltage is supplied via fuse 25 to pin 47 on the TWICE control module.

The tailgate can be opened with the key, remote control or the switch in the driver's door.

When switch 388 is activated, a signal is fed to TWICE control module pin 11.

When microswitch 622 is activated by the key being turned, a signal is fed to control module pin 59.

When button C on the remote control is activated, a signal is sent that is received by a receiver, The receiver processes the signal and transfers it on to TWICE control module pin 14.

The TWICE control module outputs a voltage impulse via pin 67 to the tailgate lock motor (184H). The tailgate unlocks and opens.

The lock motor then returns to resting position, which is the locked position.

If soft top opening is activated, the possibility to open the tailgate with the remote control or switch in the driver's door is blocked. The tailgate can be opened with the key, but then opening of the soft top will stop.

TSL lock/unlock of tailgate (not US/CA)

3 and 5-door body

The tailgate is TSL-locked (Theft Security Lock -TSL) together with all other central lock motors. TSL-lock is possible with the key or remote control (button A). TSL-lock with the key is possible from the driver's door or the front passenger door.

+30 voltage is supplied via fuse 25 to pin 47 on the TWICE control module.

At the first press of the button/turn of the key, all doors are locked, see section “Locking tailgate“.

At the second press of the button/turn of the key, a short voltage impulse is output from TWICE control module pin 44 to the tailgate lock motor.

The tailgate is unlocked with the relevant remote control button (C) when TSL is active. It can be unlocked with one press on the remote control (C) and the other doors will be locked. To activate TSL again, the remote control must be pressed twice or the key turned twice in the driver or passenger door.

When opening from TSL-locked position with the key or remote control, the tailgate goes to central locked position.
