Background

In some cars the diaphragm in the vacuum box which regulates the swirl throttle disintegrates when it comes into contact with oil. This can cause poor drivability and the CHECK ENGINE indicator lamp to come on. A new vacuum box with oil resistant diaphragm has been introduced. The vacuum box must be replaced by a new one on all cars affected.

53 33 950 Vacuum box

16-87 81 718 Silicon grease (one tube is sufficient for approx. 10 cars)

Procedure

Before proceeding, check box B2 of the modification identity plate. If the box is not marked, continue as follows.


1. Replace the vacuum box as per the method described in WIS - 9-3 M2002 - Engine - PSG16 - Adjustment/Replacement - Vacuum box, Swirl throttle.


Marking the modification identity plate

After carrying out the procedures on the cars affected as per MI210-2362, MI210-2363 and MI248-2368 the modification identity plate must be marked in box B2. If the procedure is carried out by the importer, mark the box with the number "7" and if carried out by the dealer with the number "8".
