The display lighting is controlled principally by the compartment light sensor and the rheostat in SID. The main instrument unit adds an offset value to the values coming on the bus from SID that can be adjusted with Tech 2. As it is only an offset value, it is not possible to turn the display lighting completely on or off. The adjustment is in %. The works setting is 50% on cars with diesel engines.
