Brief description

Saab 9-3 is equipped with a washer and wiper system for cleaning the windscreen, rear window and headlamps.

System functions are controlled with a stalk switch on the steering column to the right of the steering wheel, and with the help of the DICE.

The washer and wiper system comprises:



Windscreen wipers

The windscreen wiper assembly is located under the cover beneath the windscreen. It consists of a motor, arm linkage and two wiper arms with wiper blades. The operational functions are controlled by DICE with the help of an intermittent wiper relay.

The windscreen wipers have two speeds (high/low) and one intermittent wiper position, the frequency of which can be regulated to intervals of between 2 and 15 seconds by a control on the control switch.

Rear window wiper

The rear window wiper is mounted on the tailgate and the washer nozzle is integrated with the high-level brake light.

The function is controlled by DICE. The rear window wiper has one intermittent wiper position which cannot be regulated.

Headlamp wipers

A headlamp wiper is located under each headlamp. The wipers are activated whenever the windscreen washers are switched on.

Washer assembly

The washer assembly is located at the front of the left-hand front wing. It consists of a fluid reservoir with a pump and level switch. There are hoses leading to the nozzles on the bonnet, rear window and headlamp wiper arms.

The operational functions are controlled by DICE. If the fluid level is low, a message is sent on the bus. SID generates an audible signal and displays the words WASHER FLUID LEVEL LOW on the display.
