Valve housing cover

Valve housing cover

To remove

1. Remove the cover over the intake manifold, alternatively the resonator, together with hoses and mass air flow sensor.

2. Hook the lifting beam on the engine and raise the car.

3. Remove the air shields.

4. Remove the engine pad retaining bolts.

5. Remove the ground cable and engine mounting bracket retaining bolts.

6. Place an oil pan under the gearbox and remove the cooler hoses. Plug the holes and bend the hoses aside.

7. Remove the bolt securing the temperature sensor's cover (and also securing the valve housing cover).

8. Remove the remaining 8 bolts.

To fit

1. Clean the sealing surfaces on the valve housing cover and gearbox, carefully removing all traces of old sealing compound.

Note

Make sure that all fluid has been carefully wiped off the surface so that the sealing compound will adhere to it. Spread the sealing compound (87 81 841) in a thin and even layer over the entire sealing surface. On a dismantled gearbox, the sealing compound can be applied on the sealing surface of the cover.

2. Position the cover.

3. Fit the cover with the 8 retaining bolts, not the bolt securing the cover for the temperature sensor.

Tightening torque: 25 Nm (18.5 lbf ft)

4. Fit the temperature sensor's cover.

Tightening torque: 25 Nm (18.5 lbf ft)

5. Reconnect the oil cooler hoses to the gearbox. Make sure that they do not rest against the subframe.

6. Fit the bracket for the engine mounting.

7. Connect the ground cable.

8. Fit the engine pad.

9. Fit the air shields.

10. Lower the car and remove the lifting beam.

11. Fit the cover over the intake manifold, alternatively the resonator, with hoses and mass air flow sensor.

12. Fill transmission fluid DEXRON III (mineral oil based).

13. Warm up the engine and transmission. Check the fluid level and operation of the transmission.
