Master cylinder

/ 9-3 (9400) / 2001 / 5. Brakes / Footbrake system / Adjustment/replacement / Master cylinder

To remove

1.	Remove the engine cover.

2.	Unplug the connector from the brake fluid reservoir cover.

3.	Drain the brake fluid from the brake fluid reservoir. Use special tool 88 19 096 Bleeding equipment .

4.	Place a sheet of paper or a cloth under the master cylinder.

5.	Remove the lower brake pipe from the master cylinder.

6.	Remove the upper brake pipe from the master cylinder.

7.	Manual gearbox: Remove the hose from the brake fluid reservoir.

8.	Remove the two master cylinder retaining nuts and lift out the master cylinder.

9.	Transfer the brake fluid reservoir to the new master cylinder.

To fit

1.	Fit the master cylinder to the brake servo unit and tighten the retaining nuts.

2.	Fit the brake pipe connections.

3.	Manual gearbox: Fit the hose to the brake fluid reservoir. Remove the paper or cloth from under the master cylinder.

4.	Attach the connector to the brake fluid reservoir cover.

5.	Fill with the brake fluid reservoir with brake fluid.

6.	Bleed the brake system. See Bleeding the brake system .

7.	Check the function by depressing the brake pedal. Check the tightness of the brake pipe connections as well.

8.	Fit the engine cover.

9.	Check the function of the brakes.
