Central locking system operation, tailgate/bootlid

Locking and unlocking tailgate (3D and 5D)

Lock

+30 voltage is supplied via fuse 25 to pin 47 on the TWICE control module.

The tailgate is locked together with all other central locking motors. Central locking is achieved with the key, remote control or automatic locking (only tailgate). When the tailgate is locked, the TWICE control module receives a signal at:

Pin 56, locking with key, driver's door

Pin 14, locking with remote control

The TWICE control module outputs a short voltage impulse from pin 2 to relay 493 and on to the lock motor (184H).

The luggage compartment lock motor is grounded to TWICE pins 44 and 67.

Unlock

+30 voltage is supplied via fuse 25 to pin 47 on the TWICE control module.

Switch 388 on the driver's door grounds, when activated, pin 11 of the TWICE control module. In turn, the control module outputs a short impulse from pin 67 to the luggage compartment lock motor (184H), and the tailgate is opened.

When switch 622 is activated by the key being turned, pin 59 on the TWICE module is grounded which in turn outputs a voltage impulse via pin 67 to the tailgate lock motor 184H. The tailgate is unlocked and can be opened with the tailgate handle.

The tailgate can also be unlocked with the remote control. The antenna unit, when receiving a signal, grounds pin 51 of the TWICE control module.

When the tailgate is opened, the switch for luggage compartment lighting is closed, which in turn contacts the TWICE control module. TWICE sends a bus message “TAILGATE OPEN“ when the tailgate is open. This is used by the main instrument unit that lights up lamp 213j door indication, tailgate (pictogram).

The luggage compartment lock motor 184H is grounded on the control module pins 2 and 44. Switch 622 is grounded at grounding point G3.

The antenna unit is grounded at grounding point G33P on LHD cars, and at grounding point G34S on RHD.

Switch 388 is grounded at grounding point G35 on LHD cars, and at grounding point G24 for RHD.

Opening the bootlid (Convertible)

The Convertible bootlid does not have a handle. When unlocking, the bootlid pops open somewhat due to the action of a spring.

+30 voltage is supplied via fuse 25 to pin 47 on the TWICE control module.

The bootlid can be opened with the key, remote control or the switch in the driver's door.

When switch 388 is activated, a signal is fed to pin 11 of the TWICE control module.

When microswitch 622 is activated by the key being turned, a signal is fed to control module pin 59.

When button C on the remote control is activated, a signal is sent that is received by a receiver. The receiver processes the signal and transfers it on to TWICE control module pin 14.

The TWICE control module outputs a voltage impulse via pin 67 to the bootlid lock motor (184H). The bootlid unlocks and opens.

The lock motor then returns to resting position, which is the locked position.

If soft top opening is activated, the possibility to open the bootlid with the remote control or switch in the driver's door is blocked. The bootlid can be opened with the key, but then opening of the soft top will stop.

TSL activation/deactivation for tailgate (not US/CA)

3 and 5-door body

The Theft Security Lock (TSL) can be activated for the tailgate motor along with the other central locking motors. TSL can be activated with the key or remote control (button A). TSL is activated using the key from the driver's door.

+30 voltage is supplied via fuse 25 to pin 47 on the TWICE control module.

At the first press of the button/turn of the key, all doors are locked, see section “Locking tailgate“.

At the second press of the button/turn of the key, a short voltage impulse is output from TWICE control module pin 44 to the tailgate lock motor.

TSL is deactivated by pressing the specified remote control button (C). The tailgate is unlocked when button C is pressed once, and the other door lock motors return to the normal locked position. If you wish to reactivate TSL, the button on the remote control must be pressed twice or the key turned twice in the driver's door.

When opening the car doors with the key or remote control when TSL is activated, the tailgate goes to central locked position.
