General Safety Regulations

The cars are fitted with seat belts for the front and rear seats in accordance with current legislation. All belts have been tested for type approval.

On the strap is a label stating the manufacturer, manufacturer's part number and year of production, type approval code and Saab original part number.

Warning

The label must not be removed from the belt strap. No changes or repairs may be made to the belt and no fixing points changed. Ensure that the type of belt fitted and its position comply with the specification given in the spare part literature.

Belts which have been stressed in connection with an accident must be replaced and destroyed so they cannot be re-used.


Inertia reel with belt tensioner activated

When a car has been involved in a collision and a belt tensioner has been activated, the entire inertia reel with belt tensioner, buckle lock and end fitting must be replaced.

If any of the rear belts were in use at the time of the accident, they must be replaced together with the seat-belt buckle.

If a belt-tensioner has not been activated, check all the belts and other equipment. Check other components in the SRS system and rectify if necessary, see Body, Airbag (SRS) .

If the seat-belt tensioner has been activated, it must be scrapped, see Body, Airbag (SRS), “Adjustment/replacement” .

Warning

When a car has been involved in a collision and a belt tensioner has been activated, the entire inertia reel with belt tensioner, buckle lock and end fitting must be replaced.

If no belt tensioner has been activated, inspect all belts and other equipment thoroughly.

The rear belts must be replaced if they have been used in an accident and have signs of damage such as lengthening, traces of plastic/metal from the strap guide, displacement or deformation of the belt lock. In these cases, the rear belts must be replaced together with the belt locks.

In other cases, we do not recommend replacing undamaged belts.
