Fuel filler pipe

Fuel filler pipe

Warning

Removal of the fuel filler pipe involves partial dismantling of the car's fuel system. The following points must therefore be observed in connection with this work:

Work only in a well-ventilated area! If approved equipment for the extraction of fuel vapours is available, be sure to use it.

Wear suitable gloves! Prolonged contact with fuel can cause skin irritation or dermatitis.

Keep a class BE fire extinguisher near at hand! Be mindful of the danger of sparks caused by short circuits and when connecting and disconnecting leads in electrical circuits.

No smoking anywhere in the vicinity.

Wear protective goggles.

Dismantling

1. Open the filler hatch and remove the fuel cap.

2. Raise the car.

3. Detach the quick-release coupling on the purge line to the filler pipe using tool 83 95 261.

4. Undo the clamps securing the filler pipe and vent pipe. Remove the clamp on the filler pipe.

Important

Be careful with the retaining screw on the bottom clamp, as this is a plastic safety screw that must be replaced every time it is removed/fitted.

5. Detach the filler pipe from the tank.

Note

Clean the pipe connections etc. before removing.

6. Lower the filler pipe.

To fit

1. Insert the pipe up through the filler on the rear wing. Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly to the top of the filler pipe to make it easier to fit.

2. Fit a new hose to the filler pipe. Connect the pipe to the hose. Position the pipes properly and tighten the clamps.

Important

The hose to the filler pipe must always be changed. The old hose must not be refitted as there is a risk of it splitting/cracking.

Important

The plastic screw on the bottom clamp is a safety detail and must always be changed every time it is removed/fitted.

Tightening torques

plastic screw 1,8 Nm (1,3 lbf ft)

3. Tighten the hose clamps on the hose between the tank and the filler pipe.

4. Fit the filler pipe purge line.

5. Lower the car to the floor.

6. Make sure that the filler pipe is positioned correctly in the opening.

7. Tighten the filler cap and close the hatch.
