Engine oil temperature sensor
The task of the temperature sensor is to inform the engine control module of the current engine oil temperature.
The temperature sensor has the following connections
1.
Signal, engine oil temperature: Pin 1 on the temperature sensor is connected to pin 21 on the engine control module
2.
Sensor ground: Pin 2 on the temperature sensor is connected to pin 33 on the engine control module
The engine oil temperature sensor is located on the front of the oil pan. It is an NTC sensor and is powered with 5 V from the engine control module.
The resistance of the temperature sensor changes with the temperature. The sensor resistance takes the following values:
20°C (68°F)
2500 Ohm 6%
100°C (212°F)
186 Ohm 6%
If the oil temperature sensor is short-circuited to B+, the DTC P0198 will be generated.
If the oil temperature sensor is short-circuited to ground, DTC P0197 will be generated.
One minute after the engine is started, the oil temperature is checked and compared with the coolant temperature. When the coolant temperature reaches 80°C, the value stabilises for 3 minutes. If the oil temperature does not reach 50°C after these 3 minutes, DTC P0196 will be generated.

If a DTC is generated, the substitute value +100°C is used.

•
For DTC P0198, the reading on the diagnostic tool is +100°C.

•
For DTC P0197, the reading on the diagnostic tool is +100°C.
