| Background |
The cars are prepared for installation of a mobile telephone. There are two levels of preparation:

Telephone preparation (TEL 0) with dummy aerial fitted to the roof

| • |
Hand-free preparation (TEL 1) with telephone aerial fitted to the roof
|
|
The aerial and the dummy have the exact same appearance.
If the car owner later wishes to fit his car with hands-free equipment, you can easily check to see if the car is equipped with an aerial or a dummy.
| Procedure |
To identify whether the car is equipped for "TEL 0" or "TEL 1", use a torch to shine through the microphone grille. A black microphone is visible behind the grille in a "TEL 1" car. There is a white cover behind the grille in a "TEL 0" car.
The following accessories are required to retrofit hands-free equipment:
Adapter network, mobile telephone connection (400 129 078)
Mobile telephone aerial (see EPC/EAC)
