Adjusting the fuel gauge/sensor

Adjusting the fuel gauge/sensor

There are two possibilities of adjusting the fuel gauge reading, depending on whether the reading error is of the same magnitude from full to empty tank or whether it occurs only at a certain fuel level.

Alternative 1. Gauge reading error across the whole scale.

Adjustment of Tank Offset means adjusting the fuel level sensor's input to the main instrument unit. Tank Offset can be adjusted from -5 t +3 litres. This command affects the Fuel Level read value and the fuel gauge indication.

After adjustment, switch the ignition off and on again as a check. Use the “Fuel level” read value to check the adjustment made.

1. Drain the fuel tank.

- The Read Value should be 0 litres.

2. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.

3. Add 10 litres of fuel to the tank.

4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

5. Read value “Tank Contents”. Adjust Tank offset to the correct value.

6. Activate the fuel gauge and check that the gauge reading is correct at all the "breakpoints". Adjust the breakpoints if necessary. For breakpoints set at the works, see .

7. Clear the diagnostic trouble codes in all systems.

Perform a functional test.

Test OK?

YES The steps taken to rectify the fault were correct.
